Our Fort DeSoto Bike Tour is a 15-mile guided tour, originating from the Tierra Verde Marina Resort in St Pete, and heading down to Fort DeSoto Park. This bike tour strolls past the multi-million dollar mansions of the West Shore enclave of Tierra Verde, then continues through the Shell Key Wildlife preserve and into Fort DeSoto Park. At the park, we stop the bikes the historic fort, and walk our guests through the 100 year old gun batteries, bunkers, and the historic museum. Finally, we’ll visit Fort DeSoto’s magnificent fishing pier giving our guests a look at the Gulf of Mexico and the Egmont Key channel, with the giant majestic ships entering the harbor, as well as the dolphins and manatees at play. While there, you can stop for the restrooms as well as ice cream, drinks and other refreshments. Then we get back on the bikes for the ride back to the marina.

Fort de Soto Park is located just southwest of St. Petersburg, is a 1136 acre park located on 5 “keys” or islands, with the main island being Mullet Key. The habitat of these keys is very diverse, consisting of mangroves, hardwoods, palm hammocks, wetlands, and beaches. The bicycle tours in the spring and fall are the best to see migrating birds, of which 328 species have been identified. Herons and White Ibis are most frequently sighted on the shoreline, but you will also see Brown Pelicans, Reddish Egrets, Great Egrets, American Oyster-Catchers, Black Sea Skimmers, Great Horned Owl, Black Crowned Herons, and Marbled Godwits.

Our tours feature e-bikes, which are bicycles with an electric motor attached to them that can be used to assist with peddling on 9 different power levels. E-Bikes allow riders to go farther with less effort. The pedal assist on these e-bikes will allow you to choose your level of effort, all the way from no-assist to total assist.

You must be a capable bicycle rider, and you must be at least 5'2'' (157cm) tall.
